Vox Populi 2023 Appeal

To Our Friends and Supporters

First, I want to say thank you.Whether you engage with Vox Populi year-round, drop by for First Fridays, or simply believe in our mission, your support is deeply meaningful to us. We hope that you will join us in celebrating a wonderful 2023.

2023 was a year of change and growth here at Vox. Following through on our goal to create more opportunities for artists, Vox presented over 20 visual arts exhibitions and over 80 public programs this year. We featured over 400 artists, the majority of whom live and work right here in Philadelphia. We welcomed eight new members to our artist collective. And we are pleased to announce that we will end this tremendous year by expanding our team for the first time since 2017, by onboarding a part-time events coordinator who will significantly grow Vox’s capacity to generate revenue and build relationships in the Philadelphia community!

In addition to activating Vox’s own gallery spaces, Vox also spent 2023 ushering in a new special project funded by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage and Penn Treaty Special Services District: Teaching At The End of Times. Culminating in a 4-week exhibition at Atelier Gallery in October, this project included a series of 13 free workshops, and the launch of a battery-powered, mobile teaching unit designed collaboratively with 15+ Philadelphia organizations. Our workshops, which illuminated topics as diverse as body liberation, graphic design, and ritual-making, reached hundreds of Philadelphians at Penn Treaty Park, Cherry St. Pier, and Atelier’s gallery spaces in Brewerytown.

Vox grew in 2023 because of support from donors like you! Help us build on this momentum in 2024 by including us in your end-of-year giving. From artist honorariums and programming costs, to gallery paint and spackle, your support is critical to all facets of our work.

In the words of activist and author Toni Cade Bambara, “the role of the artist is to illuminate our world.” Vox is a rare space, one which helps artists fulfill this ever-important role on their own terms. I hope you’ll consider a donation today.

In gratitude,

Blanche Brown, Executive Director
